The next meeting of SUD Commission will be held in Brest, October 23rd. Working Groups Climate Change and Urban Mobility will meet to find opportunities of cooperation between Atlantic Cities on those fields.

The purpose of this meeting will be to address the lack of dialogue between professional organisations of climate-sensitive sectors such as agriculture, fisheries and forestry and the local authorities and regional governments which are most dependent on these economic activities.
The aim of this discussion will be to better identify the environmental risks and threats to which global food security and the economic balance of the territories may be exposed as a result of present and future climate changes, in both quantitative and qualitative terms.

Fomento de San Sebastián organizes a new Summer Course untitled «Local strategies to incentivize employment before the economic crisis ". The course will take place between 9 and 10 of July in the Miramar Palace of San Sebastián, and it is endorsed by the University of the Basque Country (Summer Courses). The objective of the course is to provide a debate forum on the different strategies of incentivizing employment, fostered by Spanish, European and American local administrations. Thus, the course is shaped as a meeting point for professionals and experts in the matter, where it would be possible to learn of real experiences with the purpose of designing future scenarios.

Social Foundation EMAÚS calls Europeans youngster to a work camp (training and volunteer work) which will take place in Asturias, in Avilés (Principado de Asturias,Spain) between the 6 and 20th July, 2009. The work camp is targeted to socially committed and sensitive to the Earth´s environmental problems young people, with ages between 18 and 35 years old.

Marketing area of the University of Leon, and the Network the International of Marketing Urban Development, in collaboration with the City councils of Leon, Avilés and Gijón; and the Government of the Principality of Asturias organize the International Days of Marketing of Cities, "the transformation and promotion of the cities".

From the 1st till 4th July, expert speakers from Buenos Aires; The Hague - Holland -; Abu Dhabi - United Arab Emirates -; City Obregón - Mexico -; Corunna, Bilbao, Avilés, Gijón and Leon - Spain - will expose experiences on "City Marketing".

The event will take place in the cities of Leon, Avilés and Gijón, interested people are allowed to register independently in the sessions of each city.

Tackling crisis as an opportunity window, CAAC will try to set an innovative Atlantic urban model through green economy
Perceiving the crisis as an opportunity of collective improvement and not as an individual failure, the moment has arrived for starting up the principles enunciated in the Atlantic Charter of San Sebastian for sustainable urban development. Thus, the central subject of this General Assembly is defined: Innovating Cities and economic crisis: opportunity window, and in the diverse sessions, the Atlantic cities will draw up an innovating road map to mobilize the local potential for creativity and innovation: defining innovating, green and attractive cities and, why not, a new strategy for the Conference of Atlantic Arc Cities.
